The Main Street Project is Now Hiring CRISIS INTERVENTION WORKERS Full-Time, Part-Time and Casual Opportunities The Main Street Project Inc. offers a range of services for adults in the core area of Winnipeg who are experiencing poverty, ill health, homelessness and substance abuse. Crisis Intervention Workers are required to provide a range of services to a largely disadvantaged client population in the core area of Winnipeg. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Crisis Intervention Worker will deliver services from a client-centered perspective, incorporating Housing First principles and a Harm Reduction philosophy. Job

Duties:
1. Provide services in the various areas of M.S.P. as required. Crisis Centre, Emergency Shelter, Detoxification Unit, Intoxicated Persons Detention Area, The Bell, and within the community
2. Monitor the physical safety of clients in the above areas
3. Conduct street patrols, intervene in critical incidents
4. Respond to crisis calls and provide emergency transportation to hospital or other appropriate service
5. Provide emergency services, counseling, referrals, shelter, and first aid.
6. Maintain concise reports on all client contacts and/or incidents through a computerized client-tracking system
7. Adhere to all procedures as detailed in the Main Street Project Procedure Manual
8. Demonstrate an understanding of staff’s role in helping people help themselves

Qualifications:

  • Certificate (2 year) or those pursuing an undergraduate degree and are in their third (3rd) or final year in the field of human services, e.g. Addictions counselling, housing placement/support, and a minimum of two (2) years related experience working with homeless individuals, or other equivalent combinations of education and experience is required;
  • Grade 12 or equivalent * Proven organizational and communication skills, both oral and written, with computer proficiency at an intermediate level is required;
  • Related case management, assessment, counseling, referral, and advocacy experience is preferred; * Knowledge of the effects of homelessness, poverty and our community’s strengths and related issues are essential;
  • Working knowledge of Aboriginal culture is considered an asset;
  • Driver’s license, First Aid & CPR, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention are required; * Demonstrated ability to work well with clients, other service providers and members of the public;
  • Good assessment and counseling skills.
